DESCPRIPTION

The tour to El Chaltén starts at 7 a.m. from El Calafate. Along route 40, the tour travels beside Lake Argentino and crosses Santa Cruz River, while a guide narrates Darwin’s experiences with Fitz Roy.

The tour then heads to La Leona River and travels along the mountain valley until reaching the old country lodge Paso La Leona, almost a museum on Route 40, where visitors can have some coffee and homemade cakes.

With the Andes range as background, the tour goes on by Lake Viedma for about three hours and along 220 kilometers (136 mi.) and reaches the mountain village of El Chaltén.

Before reaching the town, visitors will go up to a series of panoramic viewpoints on the range and Viedma Glacier.

Once they get to El Chaltén, passengers may choose from four additional options:

- Free trekking along the paths heading to the most beautiful viewpoints on mounts Fitz Roy or Torre. Visitors can have the included lunch in the open while enjoying the landscape.
- Lago del Desierto (Lake of the Desert) in a combined journey of short trekking tours (one hour each) and 4x4 rides across Río de las Vueltas mountain valley. Lunch on the mountain and an afternoon snack are included.
- Visit to Estancia Fitz Roy and home of Pioneer Andreas Madsen.
- 4-hour guided horseback ride along the National Park paths leading to Mt. Fitz Roy and Mt. Torre.
