DESCRIPTION

The city tour in Rio de Janeiro starts at the hotel and includes visits to the main tourist attractions in the city: Flamenco Park, Rio de Janeiro downtown, Rodrigo de Freitas lake, Metropolitan Cathedral, Maracana Stadium and “Sambodromo” (place where the worldwide famous carnival of Rio is celebrated every year)

Finally the tour arrives to Sugarloaf Mountain, one of the icons of Rio de Janeiro wich receives a million visitors every year. It is located on a small peninsula that is the entrance to Guanabara Bay. It is 575 meters (1,886 feet) tall.

The tour starts with a visit to Urco neighborhood, to later arrive at the mountain foot, where the cable car will be taken; its glass-walled cabins allow an excellent panoramic view. At the station, all necessary infrastructure is available: gift stores, restrooms, tourist information, information screens and pictures of the cable car history. Cable car service is available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and, depending on the number of visitors, there is a 30-minute delay between rides.

The first section of the ride ends in Urca mountain, located 220 meters above sea level (721 FASL). Urca’s platform is very large, with pathways right in the middle of vegetation and natural viewpoints at different altitudes, where it is possible to enjoy a fantastic view of Copacabana beach, the sea, the Christ on Corcovado mountain, downtown, and Guanabara and Niteroi bays. This platform includes a restaurant, coffee stores serving fast food and beverages, gift shops and restrooms. The second section leads to the Sugarloaf, where it is possible to find different stands offering fast food and souvenirs, and restrooms. Prices at these stands are moderate, so it is worth eating there while enjoying the view and taking a rest in a natural setting.
